The visa process

You need a national student visa (D-Visum) from the German embassy in your country. Requirements: university admission, blocked account (€11,208/year), health insurance, and language certificates.

The German student visa (nationaler Visum, Category D) is issued by the German embassy or consulate in your home country. Processing times vary significantly by country and season — in the UAE, expect 4–10 weeks; in Egypt, often longer. Starting early is essential.

Blocked account (Sperrkonto)

You must deposit the required annual amount into a German blocked account. Only monthly instalments are released after arrival.
Health insurance

Proof of German-compliant health insurance (public ~€110/month, or private travel health for the visa stage).
German language certificate

B1 minimum for most programmes. C1 for full German-taught degrees. Not required for English-taught programmes.
Embassy interview
Required
A personal interview at the German embassy. You must demonstrate your study plan, financial means, and intention.
